About RPC nodes
An RPC node answers the queries and transactions that wallets, explorers and other applications send to a chain. The scanner checks each node it finds for four features:
- Validator: the node signs blocks. Validators should not keep their RPC open to the public.
- Archival: it holds every block and transaction since the chain's first height, for questions about the past.
- Tx indexing: it indexes transactions, so you can look one up by hash or search by event.
- WebSocket: it accepts subscriptions to new blocks and events.
To choose one, start from what you need: an archival node for history, a node near you for speed, the features your application uses. Use nodes of more than one provider, so that one outage does not stop you.
Usage examples
Every node in the list takes the same JSON-RPC calls; these go to our RPC. Test a node before you rely on it, and keep a second one to fall back to.
# Check node status
curl -X POST https://crossfi-rpc.stakerhouse.com \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"status","params":{}}'
# Get latest block
curl -X POST https://crossfi-rpc.stakerhouse.com \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"block","params":{"height":null}}'
# Get specific block by height
curl -X POST https://crossfi-rpc.stakerhouse.com \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"block","params":{"height":"12345"}}' Nodes marked WebSocket accept subscriptions, for example to every new block:
const ws = new WebSocket('wss://your-websocket-endpoint.com/websocket');
ws.onopen = () => ws.send(JSON.stringify({
jsonrpc: '2.0',
method: 'subscribe',
id: 1,
params: ["tm.event='NewBlock'"]
}));
